Kevin Durant Winner of Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award

Golden State Warriors Finals MVP Kevin Durant received the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award this month. It is given to an athlete whose leadership, “has created a positive impact on their community through sports.”

This was the fourth Annual Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards. It is held in Los Angeles and presented by ESPN.

Contributions This Year

Earlier this year Durant’s Foundation committed to funding $10 million dollars to a program called College Track in Prince George’s County. This program provides support to disadvantaged students to attend college over the course of 10 years.

In 2012 he started the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation which “enrich the lives of at-risk youth from low-income backgrounds through educational, athletic and social programs.” Other donations include, $1 million dollars to tornado victims in Oklahoma in 2013 and building basketball courts for low-income youth around the world.

The other finalists for the award were Seattle Seahawks Doug Baldwin, WWE superstar John Cena and Houston Texans defensive star J.J. Watt.
